About Me

Precision. Vision. Communication.
My name is Matthew Hayter. I live in the beautiful lands of Anishinaabek people, Robinson-Superior Treaty area, Ontario, Canada, on the north shore of Lake Superior. I’ve been a musician for 30 years, and I have played a wide range of genres (classical, folk, rock, electronic). I currently make intricate and eclectic electro-acoustic breakbeat and/or ambient music under the name Circul & Eas. You can find my music here.

For the last 10 years of my musical journey, I’ve gone deep into a study of music production, mixing, and mastering. I’ve found out that I love it so much, and that I’m so good at it, that it’s worth putting it out there so I can help other people realize their musical goals too.

Applying my creative and technical powers to help people realize their own musical projects is really very rewarding. And I also get to revive a range of other skills I’ve honed over the years: like the communication skills I’ve developed from teaching and facilitating, and the super-nerd-level attention to analysis and detail that I built up from PhD. studies in social science and philosophy. All that extra experience really pays off in this work, even though it comes from different worlds. It means I can make the most of a unique, exciting, and balanced skillset. It means I have the technical precision, creative vision, and communicative inspiration that makes for a great mixing and mastering engineer.
